5 Reasons I Prefer Adjustable Dumbbells over Fixed Ones

Are you tired with the tons dumbbell sets you have in your home gym? Does cleaning it all up after a rigorous workout get on your nerves? What if I told you there was an easy solution and that with one set of dumbbell could replace them all?

Well, yes I am talking about adjustable dumbbells and that wasn’t convincing enough here are 5 more reasons these dumbbells are worth every penny.

Adjustable Dumbbells

They Make for a Cheaper Alternative

  • If you’re a novice then a pair or 2 of dumbbells should suffice initially but as you grow stronger you’ll want to lift heavier. This will require you to further purchase few more pairs and you’ll have to spend bigger. In the long
  • This will require you to further purchase few more pairs and you’ll have to spend bigger. In the long run, regular dumbbells can cost you around $1000-$1500.
  • Most mid-range adjustable dumbbells as featured at FitnessGuyd should cost around $200-$500 depending on the material used, padding offered and other important features.

Note: A gym membership is likely to cost you double or triple this amount. Don’t believe us? Find out yourself.

They’re super each to use

  • Lifting an adjusting dumbbell is similar to lifting a regular dumbbell or maybe not. It’s actually better. These dumbbells are ergonomically designed and have a certain amount of padding which protects the hands against blisters.
  • They also save tons of time and effort as you can switch weights in seconds. Most dumbbells have a pin system while others have a dial system which is even faster.

They’re ideal for every exercise

  • Dumbbells are important equipment in any strength training routine because they’re versatile. Unlike with a machine, with dumbbells, you can perform tons of different exercises focussing on different body muscles.
  • Adjustable dumbbells are no different. They provide the same versatility but are more convenient to use and are also faster. You can go from doing curls to a shoulder press at different weights within seconds.

They take up less space

  • To store all the dumbbells is tough and will require a dumbbell rack which takes up a lot of space and along with a power rack, barbell, weight plates etc. might leave you little room to work out. Storing an adjustable dumbbell is hassle free.
  • These dumbbells come with special stands or racks. These racks provide a neat way of putting the dumbbells away after a tough workout. Also, the stands are well built and come in designs that go well with the home decor.

They Help with Better Muscle Growth

  • For maximum muscle growth working out with free weights is the way to go. That’s because with free weights the movement isn’t fixed unlike with machines and thus more muscles are engaged providing you an efficient workout.
  • With adjustable dumbbells, you can take your workout up a notch and perform more advanced workouts such as drop set which would usually require a spotter for a quick switch of the dumbbells.

How to Run Tips for Women

If you are thinking about taking up running as a form of exercise, you may not know exactly where to begin or how to go about running. While the basic idea is very simple – put one foot in front of the other – there are some things you can do to improve your form and make running more effective. Here are some tips for runners that both novice and advanced women may find helpful.

  1. Invest in a good pair of running shoes. Yes, it may mean dropping $100 or so on shoes, but shoes designed for running will help you avoid hurting your feet. Other shoes will not give you the support your need.
  2. Work up to longer distances. There is no need to try to run a marathon during your first month of running. Start slowly – a few miles a week to start is not a bad idea. Some professionals suggest focusing on time instead of distance, especially in the beginning. Instead of trying to run five miles, try running for 30 minutes. This is often an easier goal to meet. Likewise, you can always change up your course to include hills or other more difficult terrain. You do not have to start there. Running for a bit of time is better than not doing any form of exercise at all. If you can only get in a few minutes, do so.
  3. Do not over-exert yourself. One thing experts suggest is to do the “talk test.” If you can hold a conversation with someone else while running, you are going at a good pace. If you are running so fast and hard that you can barely talk, you’re probably pushing it too hard. Unless you’re in a race, there is no need to wear yourself out.
  4. Try to remain loose. Running while tense makes it more likely that you’ll pull a muscle or otherwise injure yourself. Keep your jaw loose, do not tense up your shoulders and pause every now and then stretch and relax your arms and hands. Try to keep your hands cupped, not clenched into fists.
  5. Do not forget to warm up. You need to do a little bit of light walking before you stretch. Many people do not realize it, but stretching out cold muscles can actually be harmful.
  6. Always remember to drink plenty of water. While the average person needs to drink eight glasses of water a day, a runner needs more. Water keeps the joints lubricated, makes the body produce sweat, and more. Keep yourself hydrated.
  7. Listen to what your body is telling you. If you keep feeling a strange pain or tightness in your legs or feet, pay attention to it – something is wrong. Do not try to run through the pain because it could lead to a major issue. Instead, take it easy for a few days. If the pain has gone away, great. If it hasn’t, stop and see a doctor.

Each mile you run, regardless of the speed you run it at, burns around 100 calories. Slow miles are just as good as fast miles.
